Stock market basics
Correction
Definition
A fall of 10% to 20% from a recent high.
Example
Say a stock peaks at $80 and falls to $70, a 12.5% drop that puts it in correction territory. A dip to $74, only 7.5% off the high, would not count yet. If the slide continued to $64, the drop would reach 20%, the usual line for a bear market.
Hypothetical numbers, for illustration only.
