Flag pattern

Definition

A short, shallow pause between two parallel lines that slope against the pole: down in a bull flag, up in a bear flag.

Example

Suppose a stock jumps from $30 to $36 in three days, then drifts lower for a week between two parallel down-sloping lines, bottoming at $34.80. That pause gives back only $1.20 of the $6 pole, or 20%, which fits a bull flag. A pullback that erased $4 of the pole would be too deep to call a flag.

Hypothetical numbers, for illustration only.
