Paper trading
Definition
Paper trading means placing simulated trades with virtual money to practice without risking capital. TradingView includes paper trading on every plan, opened from the Trading Panel under the chart, which makes it a sensible place to test a plan before using real money.
Example
Say you start a paper trading account with $100,000 of virtual money and buy 50 shares of a $120 stock, a $6,000 position. If it falls to $110 and you sell, the account shows a $500 loss and a $99,500 balance, with no real money at stake. Simulated fills can be cleaner than live ones, and losing play money feels different, so practice results may not carry over unchanged.
Hypothetical numbers, for illustration only.
