A+ setup

Definition

An A+ setup is a trader's own label for their highest-quality trades: the ones that tick every item on their checklist, such as trend, level, volume and a clear stop and target. Many traders take only A+ setups and skip the rest. UpTickFlow, our TradingView indicator, uses a simpler grade: its signals are grade A on 4-hour charts and up and grade B on the 1-hour chart, and you can choose to show A only.

Example

Suppose a trader’s checklist has five items: daily uptrend, pullback to a known level, rising volume, a clear stop, and a target at least twice the risk. An entry at $50 with a stop at $49 and a target at $52 ticks all five, so it earns the A+ label. If the nearest resistance were at $51, the reward would only equal the risk, and the trader would skip that setup.

A chart labeled with this section's terms: a range between green support and red resistance at $50; a false breakout that trades up to $50.20 and closes at $49.85; a breakout that closes above $50; a retest where old resistance acts as support and the zone turns green; then a pullback and an uptrend of higher highs and higher lows.
