Point of control (POC)
Definition
The price row with the most traded volume in the period: a reference that is often revisited and often broken.
Example
Say yesterday’s volume profile for a stock shows 1.2 million shares traded at $87.50, more than at any other price row, which makes $87.50 the POC. If today the stock opens at $89.00 and drifts lower, traders watch $87.50 as a place where price may slow or chop. A heavy sell-off can still slice through it in minutes, so it is a reference, not a floor.
Hypothetical numbers, for illustration only.
