Trading strategies
Opening range
Definition
The high and low of the first 5, 15 or 30 minutes after the 9:30 a.m. ET open, on regular-session data.
Example
Say a stock trades between $52.40 and $53.10 in the first 15 minutes after the 9:30 ET open. That $0.70 band is its 15-minute opening range, even if premarket trading reached $54.00, because only regular-session prices count. A trader using it as a level might wait for a 5-minute candle to close above $53.10 or below $52.40.
Hypothetical numbers, for illustration only.
