Trading the US market
Ask (offer)
Definition
The lowest price a seller will accept right now. A market buy order generally fills at or near it.
Example
Say a stock is quoted at $62.10 bid and $62.15 ask. A market order to buy 100 shares fills at about $62.15, costing roughly $6,215. A buy limit at $62.12 would not fill right away: it becomes the new best bid and waits for a seller willing to accept $62.12.
Hypothetical numbers, for illustration only.
